Looking for a fun way to reinforce your current learning topics?

The Feed the Cow Game is perfect for all ages because it can be used to practice almost anything! Toddlers and even second grade students love the idea of feeding the cow letters, numbers or even colors. I used this activity during my farm unit to teach colors to my toddlers.

I love this activity because you can use it to reinforce any topic you are currently teaching. Games such as these are a great evaluator for your child's progress without the pressure of a test or traditional way of recalling.

Feed the cow pompoms to work on colors or counting. Use letter cards to work on letter sounds or letter names. Practice spelling or sight words by feeding the cow letter tiles. Don't have letter tiles? Use index cards to write down the letters.

I made 2 of these Feed the Cow activities. One for my class and one for at home. I traced the template to allow the option to color it. Honestly, I needed them busy so that I could put the activity together.

Instructions

Download and print the cow template (below). Print using fit to page option. I suggest printing onto cardstock and laminating for durability. Cut it out and tape it to the top of an empty cup, paper bag, or tissue box.

If you use a cup, paper bag, or small tissue box cut the mouth open to push the items through. I printed my template onto a large tissue box. I used heavy duty tape to cover the entire box for durability.

Feed the Cow- Counting or Coloring Sorting Game

Roll the die and feed Mr. Cow that many pom poms. When his belly is full (tissue box), you win!

Counting Game : Start with 10 pom poms. Roll the die and feed Mr. Cow that many pom poms. Don't have pom poms? You can use blocks, legos, pouch caps or another favorite manipulative. Increase the difficulty by using more or less manipulatives. Start with 5 manipulatives for younger children ages 1.5 or 2

Coloring Sorting Game: Turn your counting game into a color sorting activity by feeding Mr. Cow a certain color manipulative. When all of the manipulatives are gobbled up, you win!

Feed The Cow Shapes Game

Feed Mr. Turkey the shapes and name each one as you feed it to him.

Colors and Shapes: Increase the difficulty by naming a specific color shape to feed to Mr. Cow.

Feed the Cow Letters Game

Feed Mr. Cow letter tiles, abc magnets or alphabet cards. I used a set of cards I purchased from Dollar Tree that included shapes, numbers, and letters.

Feed The Cow Sight Words Game

Do you have an older child who is spelling or practicing sight words? You can use this game to reinforce your child's knowledge. Games such as these are a great evaluator for your child's progress without the pressure of a test or traditional way of recalling.

Practice your sight words by reading each one as you feed it to Mr. Cow.

Note: If you don’t have word tiles, you can write the words on index cards to feed to Mr. Cow.
